My Yoga Journey

I have practiced yoga since roughly the age of 14 after picking up an 80’s yoga video and being entertained and curious by the movements and positions and neon lights!

Several years later in 2014, I qualified as a yoga teacher with Integral Yoga, where I learnt a deeply traditional and holistic form of Hatha yoga. It was through this training that I felt the deep connection to inner self and witnessed the transformative benefits of yoga on my mind, body and most profoundly spirit. I re-discovered the home of my authentic Self. It is this Self I endeavour to support people to connect with through the practice of Yoga.

Around the same time, I began working both with the organisation Special Yoga and learning disability charity Harrow Mencap, now named Community Connex, both in North West London.

Further yoga training with Special Yoga enabled me to specialise in sharing yoga with children & adults with disabilities and autism. I started offering 1:1 and group sessions for adults at Special Yoga, and in my role of deputy manager at Community Connex, was able to introduce weekly yoga classes to their client group. I also ran yoga workshops for parents and carers. It was here that I really began to see how Yoga can transcend any perceived physical, mental or emotional barriers.

I have always had an interest in mental health, largely due to my own challenges with anxiety disorders, and trying to find ways to live more easefully in the world, and so in 2018 I graduated as a Yoga Therapist through the Minded Institute.  This incredible and vast training combined yoga therapy and mindfulness with clinical skills and a deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology and neuroscience. The practices support the treatment of long term mental and physical health conditions.

The above training bolstered my particular interest in mental health and learning disabilities. It is a largely overlooked and misunderstood area of healthcare, and the past 10 years working with children and adults with disabilities has shown me what a crucial role the practice of yoga can have on a person’s wellbeing.

I am a mentor with Special Yoga for their Special Yoga for Adults training, as well as a Senior Special Yoga Practitioner. I offer private 1:1 Yoga Therapy for any one who feels they would benefit. I work with people of all ages, needs and abilities.
