Frequently asked questions.

Who is yoga therapy for?

Yoga therapy is literally for anyone. You do not have to look, feel, move or be a certain religion, age, gender or ethnicity. Yoga therapy is a science which can be applied to you as individual. Everyone is welcome.

DO I NEED TO HAVE DONE YOGA BEFORE?

You do not have done yoga before to do yoga therapy, attend a class or join one of our retreats. Sessions are designed so that you can be comfortable exactly as you are.

Yoga is great for beginners as it can be tailored to you.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

As with many things in life, consistency is key, but there is no obligation to commit to a prescribed programme. However the guidance below may help:

With Yoga therapy, you can experience the benefits in one session or multiple. The condition or situation you are working with impacts this. I often suggest an initial 6 week programme. You will also be taught practices you can do at home, so you can become independent in your self-care.

When it comes to Special Yoga, and working with people who may need more support and are less likely to be able to independently do the practices, it is helpful to have weekly sessions. Many clients attend weekly for months if not years.

I’M NOT FLEXIBLE, CAN I STILL DO YOGA?

Yes absolutely! Yoga is not about being flexible. The physical part of yoga (postures) is a small part of what yoga offers. Yoga is about connecting to yourself more deeply, and living more comfortably and easefully. There are many adaptions and variations for poses which can offer the same benefits.

What if i can’t get on the floor?

Yoga therapy can be offered using chairs, or laying in bed. There is no formal position which you need to be in. Yoga can be really helpful if you are bed bound as there are other practices like breath work, meditations and simple movements which can help your healing.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY?

As a yoga therapist I am trained to modify poses to work around and support any injuries. Through communication and helping you develop self-awareness, it can also help you manage your injury.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Lose and comfortable clothing. You do not need any special or expensive yoga clothing! Generally yoga is done bare feet. If you are not comfortable with that, or you have orthotic devices you need to wear, you can keep shoes, socks and other supports on.

DO I NEED A YOGA MAT?

I provide yoga equipment including mats, although you are also welcome to bring your own to a session.
